Good morning from Ridgway. ☀️
We wanted to share the latest update on the Gold Mountain Fire for guests with upcoming stays or those considering travel to the region.
The fire continues to move north east, away from the town of Ridgway and Ouray. Ridgway is not under evacuation, Hotel Palomino remains open, and we’re welcoming guests as usual. Air quality has generally remained good, with only occasional periods of light smoke depending on wind direction. Winds continue to come from the southwest.
Travel from Montrose and Telluride to Hotel Palomino remains open and is not affected by current highway closures, which remain limited to the area immediately surrounding the fire.
If you’re visiting for the holiday weekend, 4th of July celebrations in Telluride and Mountain Village are moving forward as planned, including the evening drone shows.
If you’re planning to explore the backcountry, please note that trails in the Cimarron Drainage, West Fork, and Silver Jack Reservoir areas are currently closed, and Owl Creek Pass is also closed.
Finally, we’d like to express our sincere gratitude to the firefighters, emergency personnel, and everyone working tirelessly to protect our communities. We appreciate your dedication and the long hours you’re putting in to keep our residents, visitors, and public lands safe.
We’ll continue to monitor conditions closely and share updates as needed. If you have any questions about your upcoming stay or travel plans, don’t hesitate to reach out—🤍
