The Evolution of The Warehouse | From Shell to Studio

Before it became The Warehouse, this space started as little more than an empty shell.

As we continued building what we thought would become Hidden Haven, the room slowly took shape as an open studio. The kitchen went in, the flooring was installed, and furniture began filling a space that had once been completely empty.

We had no idea how much the space—and the plan for it—would continue to evolve.

Before it was The Warehouse, it was going to be Hidden Haven.

Back in 2021, this building was still under construction, and the original vision was to create an Airbnb called Hidden Haven.

At the time, we had no idea this space would eventually become something entirely different — and, in many ways, even more meaningful. What began as one plan slowly evolved into what is now The Warehouse, a home away from home for SLTC students.

Looking back, it’s a reminder that sometimes the path you start on isn’t the one you end up taking — and sometimes that turns out to be a very good thing.

And as you can see, we even had a couple of furry supervisors on site helping with quality control.

This is where the story starts.

Meet the owners behind AP Getaways. 👋

We may be best known around here for providing housing to Southeast Lineman Training Center - SLTC students, but that’s only one piece of who we are, and one of the things we’re most proud of about AP Getaways is how personally involved we are in the homes we provide.

Alan is truly the hands-on force behind our properties. He handles nearly all of the mowing, maintenance, repairs, renovations, improvements, and projects that go into creating and maintaining the homes our students live in. If something needs to be built, fixed, maintained, moved, improved, or simply figured out, Alan is the one making it happen.

The amount of time, skill, and care he puts into our properties is a huge part of what makes AP Getaways what it is. He knows these houses inside and out because he is the one constantly working to make them better, and when a student needs something, there is a real person behind the scenes who knows the property and genuinely cares about getting it taken care of.

Andi works full-time as a Practice Administrator, overseeing the operations of a busy independent medical practice. Behind the scenes at AP Getaways, she handles communicating with students and families, coordinating housing, and keeping track of the endless details that come with making sure everything runs smoothly.

Outside of work and student housing, we also share another role that means a great deal to both of us: we are volunteer Preserve Managers with the Southeastern Cave Conservancy (SCCi), a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting caves and karst landscapes across the Southeast.

Through SCCi, we volunteer our time helping care for and manage protected cave preserves, natural areas, and the unique resources they contain. It gives us the opportunity to give back to the caving and conservation communities, spend time caring for places we love, and help protect some pretty incredible parts of the Southeast for future generations.

AP Getaways is truly a small, locally owned operation. There’s no big management company behind the scenes, it’s just us, working together to create great places for SLTC students to live while also trying to leave our little corner of the world better than we found it.

So while SLTC housing may be how you found us, conservation, stewardship, hard work, and a love for this community are a pretty big part of who we are outside of AP Getaways, too. 💚

The Warehouse Wildlife Update

Earlier today, our grounds crew was visited by a rather rotund property inspector.

He carefully surveyed the deck, checked the perimeter, and disappeared without leaving any notes…

We’ll assume that means everything passed. 🦫

Wildlife Fact: Today’s visitor was an Eastern Groundhog (Marmota monax). These curious burrowers are common throughout the Appalachian region and are one of the many wild neighbors we get to share the property with.

Welcome to Bashlin House — comfortable student housing for Southeast Lineman Training Center students during their time at school.

Located on a quiet 1.5-acre property in Rising Fawn, GA, Bashlin House accommodates up to 6 students with 4 private bedrooms, 1 double room, and 3 full bathrooms.

The home features thoughtfully maintained shared spaces including a fully stocked kitchen, dining area, washer and dryer, TVs in every bedroom, and comfortable common areas designed for downtime after class.

Outside, students can enjoy the large deck with an outdoor pool table, propane grill, and co****le boards, along with a separate fire pit area just off the deck for relaxing evenings and weekends.

Bashlin House offers nearby access to local hiking trails, scenic mountain views, waterfalls, and nature preserves. Students are just minutes from Cloudland Canyon State Park, while Chattanooga’s restaurants, shopping, and attractions like the Tennessee Aquarium are only a short drive away. Nearby mountain destinations such as Ruby Falls and Rock City also make for easy weekend adventures.
