Camp Magruder Camp Magruder is a little slice of heaven between the Pacific Ocean and Smith Lake in Rockaway Beach, Oregon.

Camp Magruder is situated along one of the most pristine stretches of ocean and beach in the Pacific Northwest. The camp is located at the end of Old Pacific Highway just south of the small coastal community of Rockaway Beach, Oregon. The camp has been hosting camp & retreat programs for children, youth, adults and families since 1945.

Camp Magruder has been a place of adventure, reflection, and connection. It all started with a vision—a space where people could step away from the noise of daily life and find something deeper. Happy 144th Birthday Frank Magruder! A couple of fun facts about our namesake:

🌊He was a professor of political science and international relations at OSU (originally Oregon State College).
🌸He wrote many successful textbooks that funded the purchase of the site, which he helped buy for $6,000 in 1942.
🌲He was an active member of the Corvallis UMC.
🐚Originally from Virginia, he personally knew Woodrow Wilson!

It’s Salamander Saturday! Our favorite salamander, the rough-skinned newt, lives here at Camp Magruder. These little guys are the cutest! If you ever feel inclined to hold one, always wash your hands afterwards. Their skin is coated with a toxin to help protect them from predators ❤️
