King tides are the highest tides of the year, caused when the sun and moon line up and their combined gravity pulls the ocean higher than normal. And every action has an equal and opposite reaction - which means we also see the lowest tides of the year approximately 6 hours later (but sadly it'll be dark.)
King Tides themselves don't cause flooding or issues UNLESS a storm rolls in at the same time. Strong winds and low air pressure can push extra seawater toward the coast — a storm surge. When that surge combines with a king tide, the water level can rise several feet higher than normal, sometimes leading to flooding or wave damage.
Many people come to the coast specifically to watch the king tides — safely from higher ground, of course! And at Seaview 403 we love being all warm and cozy, looking down at the stream and wayside and watching the waves come crashing in. Sometimes they make it all the way to the log jam!
