Of all the wonders tucked into Hocking Hills, the Rock House may be the most unusual. It is the only true cave in the whole park, a corridor carved right through the heart of a towering sandstone cliff. 🪨
Great arched openings worn through the rock act like windows, throwing shafts of golden light across the sandy stone floor. Long ago it is said to have sheltered travelers and even gave the area some of its colorful frontier legends. Standing inside, with the forest glowing just beyond those stone windows, you understand why.
In autumn the view through those openings turns to pure fire, maples and oaks blazing against the honey-colored stone. 🍁 It is one of those places that makes southeast Ohio feel almost otherworldly.
