13 years ago, we moved into this house with a 4yo and a 6yo, and we made them a dream bunk room. Over the years, countless children have enjoyed those bunks, although the folks who had adults along probably drew the short straw when they had to stay in the kid room! Today, our kids are 17 and 19, and that once-charming room has slowly become a bit inconvenient, with no place to set up a computer and beds that are tough to make up and change.

It was time. This summer we lovingly dismantled the bunk room and reimagined it as a cozy space with two beds and a nice, sturdy desk. Dan built the desk himself, and our kids have test driven it this summer, declaring it perfect.

Families, do not fear! We still have our toy box under the bed and the closet is chock full of fun things for your kids to discover. But, adults, you may also rejoice. Because now you have a darn side table and, oh, a place to charge your devices. And in the summer, there is now a dedicated A/C window unit!

Our time here is short this summer but we have tried to get out and experience the new restaurants and bars in town. Last night we finally had a chance to sit outside at The Idle Hour (which I can't seem to tag, but here they are: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61590194527736 ) and have dinner. My BLT was absolutely top notch and everyone at the table was likewise pleased with their meal. I really liked that the menu had a nice selection of solid favorites. Further, the service was friendly and prompt. Big thumbs up. Definitely go. I'm sure the bar inside is just as welcoming!

As we look ahead to 2026, I wanted to share a change we'll be making. When we first set up the house in 2013, we had little boys who loved bunkbeds. And since we were planning a very family-friendly space, our bunk room made tons of sense. For sure, over the years, we've hosted lots of enthusiastic families and have loved every minute of it. It's hard to believe, but we now have boys who are (nearly) 17 and 19. They've outgrown the bunks and would rather have more headroom and a desk where they can sit with a laptop. Because of that, during our summer stay this year, we'll be converting the bunkroom to two twin beds and a small desk. This will reduce our total capacity to six people.

I'm sorry if this will disappoint anyone! We're just growing up and the house must grow with us. On the upside, older guests will have a little more space and flexibility. ❤️
