A new kolache shop is celebrating its grand opening in San Marcos this weekend.

Kolacny’s Kolaches officially opens Saturday at 801 Chestnut St., bringing traditional Czech-style kolaches and klobasneks to town. The business is owned by Vanessa Kolacny, who started baking family recipes inspired by her Czech heritage before building a following at local markets across the area.

Unlike what many Texans think of as a kolache, traditional Czech kolaches are sweet pastries filled with fruit or cream cheese. The shop will also offer savory klobasneks, the sausage-filled pastries that have become a Texas favorite.

The new storefront will operate out of Siren's and will offer both walk-up service and online ordering.
