June 2023
Dear Larry,
Thank you for taking the time to write a nice review. It was a pleasure having you in my home. You are welcome anytime. Thank you for letting me know, privately, that your wife was disturbed by the presence of my ants. I’m truly sorry for that. It is a yearly challenge…..this year especially because of the heavy rains. The house is sprayed monthly but I combat ants outside daily by spreading Terro Ant Powder on new mounds. I wondered if I drove them inside but my pest control company assured me that that is not the case. It is very common here for people to sleep with the windows open and sometimes people keep food in their rooms and I don’t really want to make another sign telling people what to do & not do. Have you ever heard of “The Day of the Flying Ants”? I’m glad Nicole wasn’t here for that! Thousands of them! It’s a mating thing and they are drawn to the lights which of course I do not turn off because this is an inn. It lasts a few days but there is less each day. I try to kill as many as possible so the new queens don’t nest in my yard. The year before last, the first time, I did not take note of the date but then it happened again last year and I marked it on the calendar. In 2022 it was June 23rd but they have not returned yet this year. Then, there are the lizards, tarantulas, snakes, black widows, all of which have found their way into the house at some point. Doors are always opening and closing or being left open. My dog, Bronxy Jones, was even skunked in the yard once! There are also wild turkeys, deer, coyotes, scorpions and mountain lions around but never in the house. This place, however, is the desert that I choose to live in and people choose to visit. And these critters chose it first.
