Here's some GREAT NEWS for your Saturday: We will be opening NC12 at the Pea Island Visitor Center to two-lane, unrestricted traffic by the end of the day TODAY! Thank you for your patience while we made the needed repairs.

The cleanup is moving right along, and Camp Hatteras hasn't missed a beat! The storm had its say, and now the island is welcoming back our guests with sunny skies, 80-degree days, and cooler nights. ☀️ Fish are jumping, Mickey is back in his favorite shady spot, and our team has everything ready for you.

NC 12 reopens to visitors at 7 a.m. tomorrow, and we are so excited to see y'all! 😎

Dare County has announced a phased reentry plan for southbound traffic on NC12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe: Wednesday at 7 a.m., southbound traffic will only be allowed for Priority 1, 2, and 3 individuals, as well as for Ocracoke residents. No visitor access on Wednesday.

Then on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 a.m., southbound traffic will be available to the general public, including visitors. At that point, all entry restrictions will be lifted. Details: https://bit.ly/4dZiHj1

Again, the area near the Pea Island Visitor Center will be a one-lane gravel road, with traffic control regulated by automated signals. Please drive slowly and with extreme caution through the area. There will be sand and water on the road, and our crews will be out in force making further repairs and re-establishing a protective dune line.

We appreciate how many of you have been checking in throughout this nor'easter, and we've been touched by each message. Like much of this part of the island, Camp Hatteras felt the effects of the storm acutely, especially the breaches in our dunes.

Yes, it's pretty soggy right now, but we're still open, and the indoor pool, hot tub, game room, and lounge are all available for guests who are here with us. Our dedicated maintenance team is on top of things, and the rest of our crew is working hard answering questions and helping with reservation changes as we wait for Highway 12 to reopen.

To the guests sharing this unexpected Hatteras adventure with us: thank you. We know this isn't the trip you planned, and your patience and good spirits have meant so much. We've loved chatting face-to-face with so many of you and getting to know you, even if we all wish it were under sunnier skies!

For much of the year here at Camp Hatteras, we are a very small team and, as a result, a family. This is our home, and we know it holds a special place in many of your hearts too. We're grateful for everyone working to help our community recover, and we can't wait to make more memories with you when the road reopens.

Get a taste of what Hatteras has to offer! Day at the Docks-Hatteras Village, NC is a celebration of the working waterfront and tomorrow's schedule is jam packed with experiences for all ages. At the festival, you can tour boats, see exhibits and competitions, indulge in local seafood, visit vendors, and keep the little ones entertained with kid-specific activities and fishing tournament. It's a fun way to get to know the boats and people who keep the waterfront alive and your plates full of the best seafood.

Don't forget to come out and get your shrimp tacos tomorrow, cooked right on the docks! Shout out to Avon Seafood for their generous shrimp donation! We'll also have pork, chips and sodas and waters! Come see us!

Happy Labor Day.
Our store is in its last week this Year.
Come in and get some great Seafood ,Steaks, Sides, and Deserts.
Our Store will be open next year and be operated by the Phenes, Cooper, and McCune families next year. I will be retired, but I will still be close helping the younger generation any way I can.
I will be up in the Summer occasionally to help, and enjoy my Second Home and see my Outer Banks family and Friends on the Outer Banks.
