From Dentist to Battlefield Surgeon to Decorated War Hero

US Army Captain Benjamin Salomon was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest honor, for his actions of bravery and heroism that saved countless lives in the Battle of Saipan during WWII.

On a day the Japanese forces launched a last ditch effort in desperation to stave off total defeat in the area, their all-out frontal attack overwhelmed US defenses.

By the end of the engagement, Captain Salomon had laid down his life to protect those around him. We honor him, his bravery, and his sacrifice. May he forever Rest in Peace.

The Battle of Tarawa

Fought on November 20-23 1943 between the United States and Japan during WWII.

Part of Operation Galvanic which was the U.S. invasion of the Gilberts, ended in a decisive American victory though at the cost of nearly 6,400 American, Japanese, and Korean lives.

Roughly 18,000 Marines of 2nd Marine Division, supported by the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet and the Army’s 27th Infantry Division, completed an Amphibious landing on the island, secured the beaches, and paved way for the tank units to push the Japanese lines of defense across the island and to the nearby runaway US Forces were looking to secure, a mission there accomplished just a couple days later.

On this 22nd Anniversary of our Blackheart brother Folmar’s passing, our CEO Josh Granger shares some of his memories of him. While the average person may not understand the inner workings of the Marine Corps, a brotherhood that was birthed in shared bloodshed, often creates the deepest bonds.

While not every story begins with campfire kumbayas, there is beauty in the respect Warriors have for one another. We have been told for too long that our stories are best kept in private because they don’t always have the prettiest details, but the truth in them still remains.

A lot of what took place that fateful day 22 years ago still echoes in our minds, and we carry the memories of our fallen brother with us always.

Marines may duke it out with one another from time to time, but we damn sure will fight over each other bodies when we fall in combat.

Today we honor our fallen fellow Blackheart, Timothy Shane Folmar, killed in action Sept 24, 2004.

A day that remains fresh in our minds for we were there in the streets with him when God took him home.
We battled it out with our enemy over his body, and when the dust settled the weight of the engagement was suddenly heavy.

A day that shifted our strategic approach to how we fought, a Warrior gone too soon.

Today we honor his memory with a tribute on the Yellowstone River.
