Good Afternoon everyone. This weather briefing is to inform everyone on a heat wave expected to overcome our area next week and last through the weekend of the June 22 – 23. The NWS is forecasting June record high temperatures not normally seen this time of year. Humidity won’t be super high, thus allowing the heat index to be at or just below the air temperatures most days. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 60s to mid-70s which won’t allow for much cooling overnight. This alone can lead to further heat stressors for those without air conditioning.

The heat risks are identified in three factors: Moderate – Major – Extreme

Moderate level of heat affects most individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Impacts possible in some health systems and in heat-sensitive industries.

Major level of heat affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Impacts likely in some health systems, heat sensitive industries and infrastructure.

Extreme level of rare and/or long-duration extreme heat with little to no overnight relief affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Impacts likely in most health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure.

The Heat Risk for Monday is in the moderate (Orange) level, where as Tuesday is in the major (Red) level.

The Heat Risk for Wednesday transitions from major (Red) level in the northeast corner of the county (i.e. Brockway, Falls Creek, Reynoldsville) to the eastern side close to Sykesville and Big Run. The rest of the county is under extreme (purple) conditions. This is very similar to Thursday, with a little relief in the Brockway, Sugar Hill area.
