The Story Behind the House
Welcome to our little piece of history on the lake!
The house is old and was probably a very small cottage back in the 1940s. Larry bought it in 2007, shortly after coming home from Operation Iraqi Freedom with some cash in the bank, no place to live, and—thankfully—a great credit score.
🚤 The Story About the House Next Door
Shortly after Larry bought the house, he was approached by some of the neighbors from the big white building next door.
They told Larry that they had killed the old owner of this house in a “boat accident.”
Yes… you read that correctly. 😳
That story is part of the colorful history and folklore surrounding this little stretch of the lake.
And that big white building next door?
It’s the Alpine Country Club—an old Italian members-only club that has been around for generations.
Think Dirty Dancing meets greaseball Italians—an old-school lake club with plenty of characters, stories, and history. And, according to local stories, there were definitely some mobster types hanging around back in the day.
👀 One More Interesting Chapter
Years later, the same family involved in the old “boat accident” story had another run-in with Larry. They came within inches of running him over with their boat.
Larry has always suspected they might have an interest in this little piece of lakefront property.
So, if you’re curious about the neighbors, admire the big white building from our side of the property—but don’t go exploring their land. They aren’t particularly friendly toward curious visitors.
