The Haskin Family Reunion will be held Sunday, June 28, 2026 at the Historic Mars Campground with a potluck picnic at noon. This year, attendees will receive a booklet outlining Samuel Haskin's legal saga in Indiana in the 1840's. It was told in the family that Samuel Haskin spent 5 years in prison for stealing horses. Until recently, we didn't know whether that was just a family story told based on rumor or whether it was based on some measure of fact. This past winter, D. R. Haskin obtained many records on this event including the trial dockets, pardon petition letters and news articles. It turned out to be a very complex series of events that eventually led to Samuel's full pardon by the Governor of Indiana.
The booklet will also contain information on Samuel's wife, Anna Woodling Haskin. DNA analysis has indicated a woman who could be Annie's mother and a deeper analysis of each chromosome has located descendants of her Native American parent. While the DNA results are not proof, they have provided us with important clues and information that might lead us to historical records containing birth, baptism, and marriage information.
Be sure to mark your calendars and make plans to attend this year's Haskin Family Reunion; Sunday, June 28th. Hope to see you here!
