Sweden just hit reverse on a decade of digital classrooms and it is stunning to see 📚
After years of tablets and laptops replacing books, young Swedish students started struggling with focus, and reading comprehension actually dropped between 2016 and 2021 in the international PIRLS study. Teachers noticed kids losing patience with long texts and forgetting how to write by hand. Sweden's Ministry of Education is now bringing back printed textbooks and handwriting lessons, and even limiting screens for children under six. Millions of kronor are being spent so every student gets a real book again 📖. It is a quiet reminder that screens cannot replace the slow work of learning ✍️. Sometimes moving forward means going back to paper.
