The history of St. Augustine is marked by resilience in the face of destruction. In 1586, the city was famously attacked and burned during Sir Francis Drake’s raid, leaving much of the early wooden settlement in ruins. Over time, additional raids and accidental fires caused further damage, but each time the community rebuilt and strengthened the city, shaping it into the enduring historic landmark it remains today.

Wednesday night fun at the beach…

It’s almost time for our favorite mid-week hangout at the beach! On May 20, Music and Art by the Sea presents the Paul Lundgren Band (Yacht Rock). From 3:00 to 9:00 pm, enjoy a weekly show at the Art Studio, then grab dinner from a local food truck starting at 5:00 pm. DJ Dan from VIP Entertainment kicks off the tunes at 5:30 pm, followed by live music from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Bring coolers, picnic baskets, and chairs—bug spray is a good idea too. Chairs can be placed in the pavilion as early as 4:00 pm. Each week, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, a food truck from the Village Garden Food Truck Park serves snacks and dinner. On May 27, catch Elizabeth Roth at the St. Augustine Beach Pier, 350 A1A Beach Blvd., St. Augustine Beach, Florida 32080. For info, call (904) 347-8007.

🎶FREE SUMMER CONCERTS! May 28-Sept 3: The City of St. Augustine presents the 35th annual summer music series, Concerts in the Plaza every Thursday from May 28 through Sept. 3 from 6-8 PM in the gazebo of the Plaza de la Constitucion in downtown St. Augustine, between King Street and Cathedral Plaza.

The lineup includes 14 musical groups — some who have performed for many years during this series, and many others who are new to the St. Augustine stage!

Join your friends and neighbors for A Night of Guitar in St. Augustine on May 22 at 7 PM, featuring the St. Johns Classical Guitar Ensemble along with some of the area’s most talented guitarists, including Jonathan Dotson, Brian Luckett, Sam Pacetti, Joe Shields, Stuart, Orlando Roman, Chuck and Laura Rogers, TJ Ryan, Benjamin Brown, and more.
