Some stops on The Great Chocolate Hunt have a story that goes back further than you might expect. Phillips Orchards & Cider Mill in St. Johns has been part of this community since 1852 — six generations of the Phillips family farming the same land, doing things the right way for a very long time.

The Gatehouse Market on US-127 is open spring through the end of the year and carries Michigan-made products, scratch-made baked goods, and their award-winning hard ciders. If you make it out to the orchard itself, the cider is still pressed the traditional way on a rack-and-cloth press that hasn't chased shortcuts in all that time.

We may have enjoyed a Spiced Piercey on the porch after this visit. No regrets.

We would be remiss not to mention that a Nordic Pineapple chocolate hunt with a stop at a Pink Pineapple is just objectively a great day.

The Pink Pineapple Boutique in downtown Alma is exactly the kind of store that makes you rethink what a shopping trip should feel like. Curated fashion, accessories, footwear, and lifestyle finds for people who care about quality without taking themselves too seriously. It's the kind of place you go in for one thing and come out having found three things you didn't know you needed.

Downtown Alma is worth the drive on its own. The Pink Pineapple gives you a reason to linger once you get there.

You've seen the map. Now meet the stops.

Over the next couple of weeks we're spotlighting each location on The Great Chocolate Hunt, because these aren't just pins on a map. Every stop is a destination worth knowing about on its own, and we want you to see why we chose them.

First up: Twisted Craft Cocktails in Dewitt.

Head south toward Dewitt and you'll find one of mid-Michigan's best small business origin stories. Twisted started in 2020 when owner Nicolette Skerratt made a batch of cocktail jars as a fundraiser for a child with cancer. The demand that followed was completely unexpected. Less than a year later she had a storefront, and today Twisted is carried in over 300 stores across the country — all from a basement in Dewitt.

The jars are handcrafted and filled with dried ingredients and citrus-infused cane sugar. You bring the spirit, they've done the rest. They're also one of the best gifts you can walk out with anywhere in mid-Michigan, which means you probably shouldn't go in with a strict budget.

We've been dreaming up some new experiences at the inn, and we want to know what you'd actually show up for.

Not everything has to come with a room key. We're thinking about evenings and add-ons that work whether you're staying with us or just looking for something fun in mid-Michigan.

A few ideas already on our list:
🍷 Wine tasting evening at the inn
🌿 Dinner on the porch
🍕 Pizza night
🧈 A hands-on making class — think along the lines of butter making, something tactile and a little unexpected
🎶 Live music on the grounds

The Nordic Pineapple is Hiring!

The Nordic Pineapple is looking for a part-time housekeeper to join our team. This is an expansion position with competitive pay in a beautiful bed and breakfast setting.

🕒 Hours are typically between 11 AM and 4 PM (most days are closer to 11–1 or 2)
📅 Weekend and holiday availability is required (not every weekend)
📌 Flexibility is key—we’re looking for someone with a can-do attitude who can adapt to the needs of the inn
💼 This is a 1099 position
