After enjoying the company of several thousand guests, we have decided to close the Duncan House Bed and Breakfast and begin a long overdue retirement (for Andy at least, Nita is no where near ready).
It is, of course, bittersweet but we are excited about traveling in the summer, raising our 10 year old son Jayden, and averaging something less than 24,000 steps a day.
I came to the realization early on in my Innkeeper career that we were offering more than just a meal and a bed. I saw the healing power of relaxation, time to reflect, to celebrate and occasionally grieve. We hosted many newlyweds, and saw 3 marriage proposals, and the Duncan House will always be a part of their life story.
People often asked if there were guests that I was happy to see go, and I could honestly answer “no”. With only 2 rooms our guests became more like family.
We are only moving a mile, so if you are in town touch base, the Duncan House number 269-930-9698 will still work.
And one final note in response to the inevitable question. The B&B permit goes with us, not the property so it is unlikely that it will operate as such again.
To all of our past guests, we hope you are well and look forward to hearing from you if you are in town.
