The Library Historic Hotel was restored with an extraordinary amount of love, hard work and thoughtful attention to every detail. From the historic architecture and carefully chosen furnishings to the smallest finishing touches, our hope was to honor the building’s remarkable past while creating a beautiful and memorable place to stay.

Here, you don’t simply visit history—you stay in it.

Every great story has a memorable first chapter. 📖

The Donahues came to St. Joseph for their 50th St. Joseph High School class reunion—and became the very first guests of The Library Historic Hotel!

We should have shared our thanks sooner, because having them here meant more to us than they could possibly know. They embraced the history, enjoyed cocktails at The Archive Lounge and filled our new hotel with warmth, laughter and the kindest compliments.

More than a year ago, this incredible vintage safe was removed from the basement of an old home with the help of our dear friend Brian.

And when we say “removed,” we may be making it sound a little easier than it actually was. There was sweat. There was questionable judgment. And there may have been a moment when my husband and Brian reconsidered every decision that had led them to that basement. 😂

But they got it out.

And now, more than a year later, here it is being lowered into its final resting place at The Archive Lounge — exactly where it belongs.

This old safe is more than another piece of history we’ve collected. It’s a reminder of what it took to get here.

Over the past two years, so many friends, family members, neighbors and supporters have rolled up their sleeves, answered our calls, encouraged us, showed up when there was work to be done, and believed in this crazy idea right along with us.

We could never have done it alone.

So as we lower one more piece of history into The Archive, we’d like to raise a glass to all of you. 🥃

To the friends who lifted, carried, hauled, listened, encouraged, celebrated and occasionally questioned our sanity — this toast is for you.

It’s crazy to think that for more than 120 years, generations of people have walked through these doors. So many grew up visiting this Carnegie library, studying here, reading here, or simply making memories inside these walls.

We’re incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to restore this special piece of St. Joseph’s history. Finally after years or restoration, we’re proud to welcome guests into the Historic Library Hotel, where each room has been carefully curated and named after a part of the library’s history, giving every stay its own unique story and character.

Downstairs, the Archive Lounge is now open to the public daily from 4–9 PM, offering a cozy, speakeasy-inspired space to unwind.
