Hello Friends of Matoaka!
We are gearing up for the 2019 season here at Matoaka and wanted to keep you informed about what we have going on for this year:
The cabins are available for rental after April 15. Reservations can be made on our new website:
www.matoakabeachcottages.com
Campsites are open; there are three primitive sites on the Bay side of the road and one electric/water hook-up site.
Cool new things for 2019:
Sunrise yoga classes will be available for our cabin/camping guests to enjoy.
Kayaks will be available for rental to our cabin/camping guests to explore the coast.
Reminder:
Day use is available year round for $5.00 per person – It's a great way to spend a day with friends or family.
Picnic tables, grills and port-a-johns are available for day visitors to utilize.
Sprucing up:
Cabins 1 through 6 received a fresh coat of paint and new porch screens.
Beds and appliances were updated in several of the cabins.
Landscaping, forest management and beach maintenance is always ongoing to keep Matoaka beautiful!
Fossil finds from over the Winter:
A 4 inch Megalodon tooth was found north of the fourth jetty along with several nice Makos and complete Ecphora shells.
The jawbone of a Baleen whale was sighted in the cliff and recorded by the Calvert Marine Museum.
Spring has officially begun:
The first osprey was sighted at Matoaka on March 22. According to the DNR, the osprey population continues to grow due to regulations on pesticides and the introduction of more nesting platforms.
