To aid in your search for the best grouper sandwich in St Pete. If you’ve tried any of these, what’s your favorite?

Good grouper sandwiches can be found all across St. Pete, but these selections are the favorites for the I Love the Burg staff.

Favorite things St Pete... I promised to publish a list of a few of my favorite things:
- dinner and live music at the Chattaway - be sure to ask for fish food and the kids can feed the koi in their pond.
- ice cream at a place on the north end of st Pete beach called Tasty cone - it looks like a giant ice cream cone - it’s on the west side of gulf blvd not far from the McDonalds.
- Dinner downtown on beach drive, strolling along the marina, there’s an ice cream place there too (Kilwins), or going to the Sundial for a movie
- The Dali museum (downtown st Pete) - they have some kid friendly exhibits and the architecture/design of the building is gorgeous.
- watching the sunset at the beach (pass a grill or st Pete, there’s also one called sunset beach just north of st Pete beach.
- kayaking from the backyard into tampa bay
- getting live bait (or fresh fish) at Mastry’s Bait shop (on 4th ave, just a bit north of the Chattaway)
- Southside Coffee
- lunch at Old Southeast Market
- Mazzaro’s Italian market (on 22nd Ave North) - large Italian market with great sandwiches, dean and deluca type prepared food, gelato bar, espresso bar, home made pizza, pasta, etc.
- Nueva Cantina - it’s also got a sign that says “That Mexican place” - it’s on 4th st - not to far past Mastry’s as you head toward downtown.
- the Rowdies are the pro soccer team in town. The stadium is right on the bay near downtown - it’s hot to go to a game these days - but it’s fun.
- From Sept - May there’s an amazing Saturday farmer’s market - in the summer it’s smaller and in a different location
- Bodega on central avenue makes a fantastic cuban sandwich (the search for the perfect cuban sandwich is a quest in this area of the country)
- At John’s pass there’s a great little restaurant that serves lobster rolls…. Although the other epic quest there is to find the best grouper sandwich.
- Caddy’s at the beach is very popular too -beach bar, restaurant - it’s on the north side of st Pete beach. They often have live music.
- we also love love love relaxing in the backyard all year long, cooking out on the grill, sitting on the dock - we often see manatees, rays, dolphin, tons of fish.
- Fort Desoto beaches - and the ferry to Egmont Key.

St. Petersburg, Florida, may not seem as glamorous as Miami or Orlando, but this coastal city has a show-stealing dining scene.

For anyone who needs to hear this… 🤣

For our friends concerned about red tide in St Pete. Yes, it was terrible. The great news is that levels began going down in mid-July in Tampa Bay and current maps show very little red tide in the Bay or in St Pete area beaches at all. The red tide bloom seems to have moved south to Sarasota. During our visit to the area last week we saw absolutely no evidence of red tide at all.

The purpose for creating this HAB dataset was to spatially display information related to the current status of the blooming phytoplankton Karenia brevis in Florida.

Our next door neighbor has started a charter boat service on his center console boat. He can take 8 guests at a time. We had such a great day with him out on the water last week - he’s got options for fishing or visiting islands. Ask me about “Captain Jeff” if you’re interested in kore details.

St. Pete Beach Update

☀️Monday, May 4th, 2020 the public beaches of Pinellas County will be open. All public parking will be open except for specific areas in Pass-a-Grille which will be limited to residents of St. Pete Beach and for the businesses. The parking along Pass-a-Grille Way will be closed, except for the area between 7th Ave. to 9th Ave. open for businesses only. The parking along 9th and 8th Avenues will remain open for business parking. The parking on 15th and 16th Avenues along with the east side of Gulf Way will be open to residents only. The west side of Gulf Way in Pass-a-Grille along with the Upham Beach parking areas will be open.

☀️The cost for parking will be $3.25 per hour, an increase from $2.75, in an effort to cover the additional expenses around enhanced cleaning and sanitation efforts in the public bathrooms and beach area.
