There’s a lot more history around Salado than you might expect.
Just a short drive away, the Gault Archaeological Site has revealed evidence of people living in Central Texas thousands of years ago — making it a fascinating stop for anyone interested in Texas history and archaeology.
Spend the day exploring, then come back to Salado where restaurants, shops, Pace Park and Salado Creek are all close by.
The Lodge@Pace Park and The Cabin@Pace Park make an easy home base for discovering a little more of Central Texas.

One of the best things about Salado is the balance. 🌿
There’s always something going on around town — shopping, dining, live music and fall events — but back at The Lodge@Pace Park, life can slow down pretty quickly.
This egret stopped by Salado Creek during Saturday’s Native Plant Society fall plant sale. Just one of those quiet little moments that makes staying right on the creek so special.

Cool springs here!

Salado is one of those small Central Texas towns that seems to exist slightly outside of time. Founded in the 1850s along the clear waters of Salado Creek, the town grew up around a stagecoach stop and quickly became known for its natural springs and shaded creek banks, a rest point for travelers moving between larger settlements. 🌳

The Stagecoach Inn, built from local limestone, has been welcoming guests since before the Civil War and still stands today as one of the town's most recognizable landmarks. Walking the creekside path beneath the old cypress and oak trees, it is not hard to imagine why travelers chose to linger here rather than push on to the next stop. The creek itself has always been the town's centerpiece, drawing swimmers and picnickers for well over a century.

Salado never grew into a large city, and that has become its defining charm. Small shops, historic buildings, and that same slow-moving creek continue to draw people off the highway for an afternoon that feels far removed from anything modern.

When weather and creek conditions allow, the pedestrian bridge across Salado Creek connects the Barrow Brewing area directly into Pace Park — right next to The Lodge.

Walk across for a local brew, food and live music, explore Salado, then wander back along the creek to your home away from home.

Sometimes the location really is part of the vacation.
