Allegany State Park

Allegany State Park Welcome to the official Allegany State Park page! The Official Page for Allegany State Park. Named for Senator Albert T.
(9775)

Allegany State Park's 65,000 acres is known for its primitive forested valleys, un-glaciated landscape, fall leaves and wildlife. The two developed areas, Red House and Quaker, make this the largest state park in the system. Both areas offer sand beaches, picnic areas, museums, hiking trails and naturalist walks. Walkers and bicycle riders take advantage of the 5 miles of paved trails around Red H

ouse. The Art Roscoe Ski Touring Area has some of the finest groomed cross country skiing and mountain bike trails in the Northeast. Snowmobilers are attracted to Allegany State Park for its 90 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and over 150 winterized cabins. Other activities include bird watching, picnicking, fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, canoeing, and horseback riding. Visitors looking for anything from a weekend retreat to an extended vacation are able to choose from Allegany State Park's 424 campsites, 375 cabins and three group camps available for rental. There are year round vacation rental cottages that are fully equipped with the latest conveniences located in both the Red House and Quaker areas. The seven Fancher Cottages are located in the southern part of the Allegany State park, adjacent to Quaker Run Creek and offer guests a unique camping experience. Fancher, the "Father of Allegany State Park," each Fancher Cottage (located in the historic Quaker Area of the park) has a bathroom with shower, refrigerator, counter-top range and microwave. The fully accessible cottages sleep six, are furnished and stocked with pillows, bedding, cooking utensils, dishes and coffeemakers. In addition, each cottage has a grill and picnic table outside. Reminiscent of a classic hunting lodge, the Pitt Cottage in the Red House Area offers the same amenities as the Fancher Cottages. One outstanding feature of the Pitt Cottage is its gas burning stone fireplace. Located on Allegany State Park Rte. 2, the cottage is adjacent to Congdon Trail and three miles from the Administration Building. Pitt Cottage is not handicapped accessible

It is likely that you will encounter wildlife during your stay at Allegany State Park. Some of these encounters may occur in high use areas, such as picnic areas, cabin trails and tent and trailer sites. Be advised that feeding (intentionally or unintentionally) and harassing wildlife, especially bear, may result in fines and/or eviction. Please report nuisance wildlife activity in high use areas to Park staff.

We are extremely fortunate to have such a strong partnership with the Friends of Allegany State Park group.

Thanks to generous donations from the Friends group, we were able to purchase six new refrigerators and twelve new firewood rack holders for our wood-heated cabins. These additions will help improve the experience and comfort of our guests throughout the park.

A sincere thank you to Paul Crawford and all of our Friends of Allegany State Park members for your continued support, dedication, and the work you do for our patrons and park community.

With the amazing success of another I Love My Park Day and the incredible dedication to another upcoming year of summer programming, we want to share a special THANK YOU to our Friends!

The Friends of Allegany State Park were out in full force during I Love My Park Day, prepping the Red House Sawmill for their upcoming tour season. They brightened everyone's morning with donating donuts as well as donating and serving an excellent hot dog lunch to all participants, and donating five amazing door prizes for a free raffle for the day’s volunteers at the end of the event.

The Allegany State Park Historical Society was also well represented at I Love My Park Day assisting with the days tasks, tackling projects, and staffing an information table.

Moving into the coming season these two dedicated organizations are hosting yet another season of Sawmill and Tower Tours. We could not do it without you!!

We would also like to recognize our other partners for their support and participation with I Love My Park Day.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
