Olive Street Community Garden

Community garden located in the Neighborhood Revitalization Area of Salem City. In 2021 the renovated (67 Union Street) Ann C.

This area is also designated as the Quality of Life Impact Zone for the City of Salem. OSCG is a beautiful community space which began in 2014 as a partnership between The City of Salem and Stand Up for Salem, funded by the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program and coordinated by Lighthouse Ministry Inc. Volunteers who have been involved in getting this project off the ground come from t

he surrounding neighborhoods and local churches. OSCG continues to be a space for the building of community, relationships of reconciliation, and much growth on multiple levels! Campbell Garden House was opened for neighborhood fellowship activities and garden and environmental education. Lighthouse Ministry runs all the programs in the garden and garden house for youth and adults.

Beautiful day in the neighborhood! Thank you to the wonderful crew who came to help May 2nd for our Spring Garden Clean up!! Halfway mulched, weeded, and garden beds quickly filling with seedlings and seeds. 🌱

Found this beautiful prayer on The Pour Over ((unbiased Christian perspective on the news-check it out). While the garden “sleeps” in this cold, frozen winter- the Holy Spirit continues to grow his fruit in us as we sink our roots in his presence:
Spirit of the Living God, warm me and soften me and draw me near.

Grow love where there is contempt in me;

grow joy when I am dull and despairing;

grow peace in my restless discontent and chaos;

grow patience in place of hurry and agitation;

grow kindness that overcomes my harsh severity;

grow goodness where I have selfish ambition;

grow gentleness that quiets my quick, sharp tongue;

grow faithfulness where I am wayward and fickle;

and grow self-control that’s stronger than my fleshly cravings,

for the glory of the Father and His Son, Amen.

This week’s Garden Club lesson was about seeds again but focused on “a seed is adventurous and inventive.” We learned about seed dispersal or travel- by wind, animals, water, and explosion. Seeds are specifically designed with ability to float, fly, stick, or pop to land where they can germinate! We observe the amazing design in nature that God has created. After this activity, the kids excitedly “flew” to the garden to help stir in compost to prepare several beds for garlic planting!
