Long before Montauk became one of Missouri's most beloved state parks, it was a thriving Ozark community built around the power of its springs.

The Montauk Mill, built in 1896, was the last of four mills constructed along Montauk Spring. The constant flow of fresh spring water provided the perfect source of power to grind grain for local families and businesses. The mill served the community until 1927, and today much of its original machinery remains intact, offering a glimpse into life in the Ozarks more than a century ago. The mill stands as a reminder of the people, craftsmanship, and industry that helped shape Montauk's early history.
