Rainy days seem to belong naturally to old Victorian homes.

The soft sound of rain against the windows, the glow of the lamps, the quiet comfort of the parlors, and the feeling of slowing down for a little while — it creates a kind of atmosphere that’s hard to describe, but easy to appreciate.

Earlier today, we planted a few Maidenhair Hardy Ferns and some Hellebores in the gardens here at the Gillis Grier — timeless plants that feel perfectly at home beside a historic house like this. With the rain settling in afterward, the gardens seemed to come alive with that fresh, peaceful feeling only a rainy day can bring.

Days like this make the Gillis Grier feel especially warm, calm, and timeless. 🌿🌧️✨

Good morning from the Gillis Grier.

Spring is fully awakening around the house—morning light settling across the porch, the garden coming into color, and each corner offering something new to take in.

Roses, irises, rhododendrons, and white and pink azaleas are awakening into full bloom, filling the garden with layers of color and texture. From the quiet presence of the fountain to the warmth of the front porch, the season is revealing itself in both the smallest details and the grandest views.

It’s a time of year when the house and garden seem to come alive together.

We’ve taken great care to preserve the character that makes this home so special, while bringing back the warmth, beauty, and craftsmanship that define its era.
