☀️⛱Cooling your home in San Antonio’s extreme heat 🥵

✅ Always keep your A/C unit at no more than 20 degrees lower than the outside temperature * Follow the 20 degree differential rule *

🆒 HVAC systems are designed to cool to a maximum of 20 degrees below outside temps. The worst thing you can do on an extremely hot day is to set your thermostat temperature even lower than usual in an attempt to make your home cooler. All this will do is force your air conditioner to work non-stop and will greatly increase the likelihood of something going wrong.

✅ When you leave your home, set your thermostat 2 degrees higher than you normally would.

🆒 Once we climb into 100-degree weather, the system’s air exchange is not as efficient. Give the system a break in order to keep up with the heat wave and avoid breakdown.

✅ Let fans and A/C work together to cool your home

🆒 Positioning a stationary tower fan so that it is near the A/C vent helps distribute cold air faster and more efficiently than the A/C alone could.

✅ Use the ceiling fan, rotating counterclockwise, while you are in the room.

🆒 The rotation creates a downdraft to help cool your home.

As temperatures continue to soar, let's remember to drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks from the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.
