AT EMMA’S DOORSTEP - OTTO’S ICE HOUSE | Pearl Brewery president and Emma’s husband Otto Koehler built the brewery that became the Historic Pearl — though history remembers him for more than just his business prowess. In honor of Women’s Equality Day today, we honor and celebrate our hotel’s namesake, Emma Koehler, who stepped up to run the Pearl Brewery in 1914 after the death of her husband, Pearl president Otto Koehler. When booze was banned in 1919, the audacious Madame Koehler kept her entire staff employed by shifting production efforts to non-alcoholic goods and offering dry cleaning, sign making, and auto repair services. Her resilience and innovative spirit continue to inspire our hardworking team to create extraordinary experiences for our guests every year.
