Honoring our dearly departed loved ones has been a cherished Día de los Mu***os tradition at Hotel Emma at Pearl since our earliest years. Each fall, the Lobby becomes home to a stunningly adorned ofrenda that celebrates the life and legacy of our namesake, Emma Koehler, along with the family members and friends we hold close to our hearts. For nearly a decade, San Antonio designer and artist Jill Giles and her talented team created these extraordinary displays, bringing their own artistic vision to the traditional fresh flowers, candles, decorations, and personal offerings that give each altar so much meaning. We're grateful for their creativity and dedication to this special tradition, which continues today with our friends at Statue Of Design. As we look forward to unveiling this year's ofrenda in just two weeks, we're taking a look back at the vibrant displays of years past. DID YOU KNOW… our reception desk is made from reclaimed sinker cypress wood that’s more than 150 years old? In the late 1800s, when the demand for wood for construction was at its peak, American logging companies used the network of waterways in the Deep South to transport lumber to processing mills. On these voyages, the hand-cut logs would regularly fall from their rafts and sink to the bottoms of lakes and rivers. Behind the desk is a repurposed mail-sorting shelf that serves as a distinctive centerpiece with carved Art Deco details and vintage numbered lockboxes.

October brings another festive and fun-filled month of events to Historic Pearl! Spend Wednesday evenings browsing the Night Market, catch live music at Otto's Ice House, cheer on your favorite teams (the San Antonio Spurs are back on October 20!), and take to the dance floor at Stable Hall. And starting on October 27, Pearl comes together for one of our city’s most cherished traditions: Día de los Mu***os. The week-long celebration will fill the neighborhood with colorful ofrendas, live performances, exclusive art installations, and vibrant cultural events. Hotel Emma and our neighbors throughout Pearl will unveil custom ofrendas honoring loved ones who’ve passed, leading into a full day of community festivities and a special nighttime procession on November 1. The story of Hotel Emma at Historic Pearl is written into every detail of its architecture. Renowned New York design firm Roman and Williams approached the transformation of the 19th-century Pearl Brewery brewhouse with a deep respect for its former life. They preserved the industrial bones of the building and layered them with antique furnishings and artwork, patterned tile floors, and refined modern details. Roman and Williams’ signature interplay between past and present helped shape the distinctive character guests experience throughout Emma today.
