The Dutra

The Dutra The Dutra was our home for 8 odd years before we decided to share this weird little building with the world. We use the word ‘weird’ with love.

Now it’s a 5-room mini inn and an architectural assembly of salvaged and found materials located in the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego. The architect, James Brown, salvaged walls and windows and floors and doors from around San Diego to earn that word rightfully and assemble a building named after his daughter: The Dutra Brown building. But despite its idiosyncratic, individualist nature,

The Dutra Brown building fits right in on our block. Known locally as the LIND block (for Little Italy Neighborhood Development), all the buildings you see were designed by other architects in the city. Besides being our home, The Dutra Brown Building has been home to a video game company, a reclusive artist, and a “mixologist” who wouldn’t like that we’re calling him a mixologist (...you can call him Nathan, though). Now, true to form, it’s found new use as The Dutra, a 5-room mini-inn, and your resting place for the night. We're glad you're here.
