The Montgomery Street Motorcycle Club (MSMC) was founded San Francisco in 1969. We’re proud of our members, our events, and our history. We're a real-world motorcycle club with limited online presence. Many of us have become lifelong friends and feel like an extended family. These relationship were forged on remote back roads, far-flung motels, and the backyards of members' homes. We value authent

icity. We fight over who buys the first round. Members are experienced riders from the SF Bay Area. We focus on sport-touring, though members’ interests include off-road riding, long-distance rallies, adventure touring, track days, and racing. We favor European brands and many own multiple bikes. The BMW GS is currently the most common. Members are active in the local motorcycle community, have prominent roles in brand-specific organizations, and have shown bikes at the Quail Gathering. Others have encyclopedic knowledge of California roads and attractions. The Club holds 8-12 rides per year ranging from half-day local rides to overnight destination rides that cover 900-1200 miles over 2-3 days to places like Pismo, Bridgeport, Weaverville, Quincy, Death Valley, and beyond. Day rides often include lunch at an interesting local venue or end at a member’s home. We have a formal holiday party each December that marks the end of the riding season and kicks off planning for the next one. Founded by advertising and finance executives working on Montgomery Street in San Francisco, the club was known in the 1970s and 80s for its exclusivity and affluent members: business executives who insisted on luxury accommodations and lavish diversions. But riding credentials were always paramount: we famously turned down Malcolm Forbes for membership. Today, the Club has members from diverse walks of life. Rides and events focus on camaraderie and adventure, enjoying the rugged beauty of California and our home city of San Francisco. We visit a variety of venues: rustic cabins, historical lodges, classic motor-motels…and yes, even the occasional upscale resort. With over 50 years of history we’ve amassed a large collection of Club photographs, media about the Club, and a library of ride itineraries, many including GPX files. These are accessible to Members via our dedicated website. The MSMC is limited to 40 Active Members. Openings usually occur only when a member moves away from the Bay Area or gives up the sport.

Don't miss another fun weekend with the usual suspect like this last weekend's Morro Bay Ride!

We had a extraordinarily spirited ride from Alice's Restaurant in Woodside to the Cork and Plough in King City, braving the wet roads and a bit of rain down through Felton to Santa Cruz.

From there it was mostly bright sunshine and Cumulus clouds down Jolan Road past Nacimiento Lake and through the back country roads past amazing winery properties West of Paso Robles to Morro Bay.

John and Marty hosted the bar car in their room with big views of the bay and it felt like 'ol times' with the gang all chatting about the days ride and catching up!

Good times continued next door a Dorn's restaurant next to the Blue Sail Inn. More cocktails and a great dinner capped off the night as we closed down the place. Great fun!

The 1st SMR kicked off with a bone chilling good time as the group of hardy members and guests were up for the ride to Howard's Cafe in Occidental.

John Callahan joined us for coffee and BS at the Smith Ranch Deli in his well-healed Land Rover still wondering if his bike is in the storage he left it 3 years ago. Sounds like a good excuse for a new bike... Hmmm???

John Simmons and his feisty girlfriend, Marty Wickenhiezer rolled up in his Mustang... of course, with the top down... love that guy! They joined us in Occidental for breakfast and a few good laughs!

Paul McKenzie has rejoined the club after a few decades of absence and was the voice of reason to modify the route skipping LVR as it had rained on Sat and Sunday's temperatures were hovering around 36 degrees. I'm sure there were a few sketchy sections as several stretches of farmland West of Novato my dash temperature gauge hit 31 degrees! WOW... heated grips and clothing time!!!

Mike Morretti, a good friend of Robert Craig's, joined the group as a guest after being talked into buying a new KTM 890 R a couple weeks ago. As luck would have it, Mike got separated from the group after Jock peeled off early and ended up hitting a turkey on the way to Howard's. He was lucky with only the mirror ripped off, cracked handgaurd and maybe damage to the cruise control button... i.e., he did not wear any of the usual turkey trimming associated with an unintended collision.

Paul Goodacre, Lisa, Mike and I headed over the hill catching up again at Cafe Aquatica in Jenner for a pour over coffee and additional sparkling conversation... Good fun and more to come!!!

Look for another email later this month requesting RSVP for the 2024 Oyster Ride to Tony's Seafood Restaurant in Marshall coming up on Sat, January 27th.

Let's Ride,
