Who says you need to be on vacation to enjoy a resort day?

One of the great perks of being a Path Vacations Club Member is being able to enjoy the amenities at Steele Hill and The Summit even when you're not staying overnight.

Head up for a swim, spend some time in the hot tub, and enjoy a little resort time without having to pack a suitcase.

Downtown Laconia deserves a spot on your itinerary the next time you're visiting the Lakes Region.

October is a particularly nice time to explore Main Street, stop into a local restaurant for dinner, and take in the historic buildings that give downtown its character. The beautifully restored Colonial Theatre is worth a look, too, especially if there's a performance scheduled during your stay.

It's an easy outing to work into a visit to Steele Hill Resort or The Summit Resort, and a good reminder that there's plenty to explore beyond the lake itself.

If you haven't spent much time in downtown Laconia recently, consider adding it to your next trip.

There are times when adding 20 minutes to the drive is a terrible idea. October in New Hampshire is not one of them.

This is the month when "avoid highways" starts making a lot more sense. Some of the best fall views in the Lakes Region aren't at a designated overlook or attraction. They're along the smaller roads between towns, where you round a corner and suddenly wish there were somewhere to pull over.

If you're coming up for the weekend, leave yourself a little extra time and take the long way at least once 🍁

Every October, New Hampshire collectively tries to answer a question that seems like it should have a straightforward answer: when is peak foliage?

We've decided the better approach is to stop trying to pick the perfect day and just enjoy the progression. Early color, peak color and that late-October stretch when the leaves start thinning out all look different from the resorts.

That said, we're sure someone here has a system. How do you decide when it's officially peak?

Vacations are one of the few times some of us actually finish the book we've been carrying around for three months.

Cooler weather and earlier evenings make fall especially good for slowing things down a little. Find a comfortable spot, make something warm to drink and enjoy having nowhere you need to be for a while.

What's the best book you've read lately? We'll take a few suggestions for the Path Vacations reading list!

There's a long-running and very polite disagreement among our members and guests about which resort does fall better. Steele Hill has the hilltop and the long view over the lakes. The Summit has you a mile from Weirs Beach with color in every direction. We've stopped trying to settle the great debate ourselves, so we're handing it to you. Which one gets your October visit?

It's the first Friday of October, and the hills around Steele Hill are right on schedule. The color is filling in a little more every morning, and the next two weekends should be the best of the season. If you're joining us, bring a sweater and a camera. The hills around the resorts are turning by the day, the mornings have that first real chill, and the best two weeks of color in the Lakes Region are right in front of us. By late September, we're definitely noticing how much earlier the sun is going down in New Hampshire. That doesn't mean you have to head back to your room and call it a day.

There are still plenty of ways to enjoy the Lakes Region in the evening, whether you want to head out for dinner, find something to do nearby or spend the rest of the night taking advantage of the amenities back at the resort.
