Sanibel’s sea turtle nesting season may be nearing its end, but our beaches are still full of life!

SCCF documented one new nest over the past week, along with plenty of hatch activity and nest inventories. This season, Sanibel’s nests have produced an incredible 24,867 hatchlings to the sea, including 511 green turtle hatchlings.

With 356 nests depredated by coyotes, the journey from nest to Gulf is not an easy one. We can all help give these tiny Islanders a better chance by keeping our beaches dark, clean, and free of obstacles after sunset.

Please turn off beachfront lights, take beach items home, and fill in holes before you leave.

Sea turtle nesting activities are conducted under SCCF Marine Turtle Permit #047.

Sanibel mornings can be unpredictable—but finding a sheep wandering along Lighthouse Way is a first.

While walking Cooper around 6:30 this morning, Vice Mayor John Henshaw spotted the sheep on an empty lot. Concerned for her safety, he and several others chased her through nearby yards and safely captured her.

She has since been taken to a farm and is doing well. If you know someone missing a sheep, please contact the Sanibel Police Department or Sanibel City Hall so she can be reunited with her owner.

And if your security camera caught two children and two adults running through your yard around 7:30 a.m., now you know why.
