You are already a part of the history...be a part of the future of our gardens!
Dear friends of Sanibel Moorings,
As we move into the final stages of rebuilding our “new” Sanibel Moorings, I am truly excited for what comes next — the opportunity to reimagine and restore the beautiful gardens that have always been such a defining part of this special place. While we have a good start, there is much to do.
We have partnered with a landscape architect to develop a comprehensive plan for the entire property. It is a thoughtful, long-term vision designed to bring back the lush, welcoming environment that so many of us know and love. While we would love to complete it all at once, the scope of the plan — with costs exceeding $1 million — requires us to approach it in phases.
As you know, we continue to work through the insurance process for our buildings, but unfortunately, landscaping is not covered. In the meantime, I could not be more proud of our Moorings team. They have already planted much of the new shrubbery around the buildings and have taken on ongoing maintenance, learning new skills along the way while helping us manage costs wherever possible. Still, the larger vision requires specialized expertise and careful coordination across all six acres of the property.
With that in mind, I am pleased to formally introduce the “Rooted in Paradise” Capital Campaign for Landscaping at Sanibel Moorings. In partnership with the Board, we have set a goal of raising at least $1 million over time to thoughtfully restore the beauty, character, and experience of our grounds.
This effort has already been meaningfully launched thanks to a generous anonymous “seed” donation of $100,000.00, which allowed us to enhance some of our most visible and highly used areas, including the pool and grill spaces and walkways to the beach. Additional contributions have supported further plantings, and while we have made great progress, there is still much more to accomplish.
If you feel inspired to be part of this effort, contributions may be made by check payable to Sanibel Moorings, dropped off at the office. Please note “Rooted in Paradise” in the memo line.
Every dollar contributed will be applied toward the overall landscape plan. To ensure consistency and integrity of the design, funds will be used as part of the comprehensive plan rather than designated for specific areas. Additionally, as we are not a registered charity, contributions are not tax-deductible.
The Sanibel Moorings family has always been defined by care, generosity, and a shared love for this property. I am deeply grateful for that spirit, and I truly believe that together, we can bring our gardens back in a way that honors both our history and our future.
If you have any questions, I am always happy to connect.
With appreciation,
Kari Cordisco
