With the return of Aqua blue waters all around Sanibel, visitors have returned to Sanibel at pre-Ian levels enjoying all that Sanibel offers, from delicious restaurants to boutique shops, art galleries, and of course shelling (shell museum, shops, and beaches). PLEASE JOIN ME IN TELLING EVERYONE VISITING SANIBEL TO GET OUT!

I love telling visitors to Sanibel to get out! Really, I tell my guests all the time to get out, get out and enjoy all that Sanibel has to offer. I rarely need to encourage guests to shell at our beautiful beaches, but some visitors are not aware of all that Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge has to offer (butterfly exhibits, ) and it is home to more than 245 bird species – talk about a birders paradise!!! Guests can use our free bicycles to ride to the refuge and along its 4-mile wildlife drive - or drive there and take the tram tour to explore wildlife. In addition to native fauna, Sanibel is teaming with native flora, palms, coco plums, buttonwoods, orchids and queen of the night (they bloom one night only – and only at night!!). Explore the nearly 30 miles of biking and walking trails all around Sanibel – to beaches, beach access points off limits to visitor parking, restaurants, ice cream shops, boutiques and spas….

And today was the first day of the Sanibel Farmer’s Market, running every Sunday through May - weather permitting. Speaking of the weather. We have had an incredibly quiet rainy season, with gorgeous weather and no hurricanes closer than well off the east coast of Florida. I am hopeful this is the beginning of the roughly 30-year quiet pattern. For those unfamiliar, Southwest Florida experiences on and off periods of hurricane activity that run 25-40 years in cycles. We are approaching the 35th year of the current active cycle, which is expected to end soon and switch back to a long-term dormant cycle for hurricanes in the Gulf.

Last, but not least, to further entice everyone to GET OUT and enjoy Sanibel… I am extending the special to stay at least 3 nights and get a free night added to your current stay! Restrictions apply – free night cannot be applied to future stays, does not apply to reservations made on third party sites, existing reservations or combined with other specials or discounts, ends November 17th. As many of you know, I started visiting Sanibel over 20 years ago and, like you, fell in love with the island immediately. Ever since, I’ve been encouraging everyone to visit. And in that vein… I’m lowering prices below our pre-Ian pricing for stays from July 27 through August 28 so everyone can see for themselves that Sanibel has recovered from our recent hurricanes with not only existing businesses reopening monthly, but new businesses opening as well! Plus, summertime is a wonderful time to visit nearly empty beaches with shells washing up with frequent afternoon/overnight thunderstorm and temperatures moderated by the gulf while the rest of the country swelters. Hello again from the Tarpon Tale Inn!

You may not yet be aware that Sanibel’s own Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge is ranked the #2 National Wildlife Refuge in the entire country! According to the USA Today Reader’s Choice Spring 2025 Award. Alongside wildlife watching, visitors can enjoy boating, kayaking, hiking and biking and a nature drive or walking trail. Guests at the Tarpon Tale Inn enjoy the use of binoculars (very useful at Ding Darling) as well as our very durable cruiser bikes for those who prefer the exercise of biking to the Refuge, less than 6 miles from the Inn. We also provide beach carts, umbrellas, chairs and towels, all free for our guests.

To further entice you to enjoy all Sanibel has to offer, we are running an early summer special - stay 3 nights, get the 4th night free!! A note from Joe…

I did a google search for the top 5 reasons Sanibel may no longer be #1 on your vacation list and here is what came up: Traffic, Hurricane Recovery (limited amenities), noseeums, limited lodging, and traffic…again!

What if I told you we solved all of these problems? This is not an April Fool's joke...

1) Traffic - We are located on the East end of Sanibel, a quick 3-minute drive from the Causeway Bridge, and out of the way of the miles of traffic to get to the middle and western end of Sanibel and Captiva.

2) Recovery - Nearly all of the attractions Sanibel is known for are open to visitors: Ding Darling Reserve, Bailey Matthews Shell Museum and Aquarium, Tarpon Bay Explorers, high-end and mom-and-pop restaurants, shops, spas, ALL Sanibel beaches...

3) Noseeums - Starting Saturday, March 29, our entire property will be protected by SWAT Mosquito Systems providing whole property mosquito and noseeum control.

4) Limited lodging - we've got that covered!

Everything you need on your vacation is within walking distance of the Inn - shops, restaurants, ice cream shop, beautiful shelling beach and Lighthouse. And everything else is a short bike ride on one of our bicycles (included with your stay).
