We carry the Anasazi name with care, not as an ornament. It is a daily reminder of the ingenuity, artistry, and resilience of the people who shaped this land long before any of us arrived; makers of pottery and textiles still studied and admired today, ancestors of the Pueblo communities who remain part of this region's living culture.

Before the air even turns, the kiva fireplace is lit again, and the Patio holds onto its last open-air evenings before settling in for the season ahead.

An hour south, the sky fills with color as Balloon Fiesta lifts off for another year, and a few streets over, the Farmers' Market, just named the country's second-best by Time Out, still fills Saturday mornings with chile and color.

It started quietly: Thursday dinner at Anasazi Restaurant, a kitchen finding its rhythm one course at a time for a room ready to linger. Friday brought two full sittings, lunch and dinner, tables turning over with the same care held through every plate.

Then Saturday arrived differently. The grand tasting at Midtown, held under open sky, with bottles opened by the dozen and w**emakers speaking of their craft to guests meeting them for the first time.

Different rooms, different rhythms, the same thread running through all of it: the people who gave their time so W**e & Chile Fiesta could feel like this.

Rain against the windows, w**e in the glass, the Galisteo Basin blurred to something softer than usual.

Yesterday's Voyage du Vin carried guests through it anyway, French pours and picnic fare from Chef Cristian Pontiggia and two fellow Santa Fe chefs, proof that a vintage rail car holds its own kind of weather.

Two chefs, one table, one week to celebrate what Santa Fe does best.

Chef Cristian Pontiggia has spent the year preparing for this moment, a menu rooted in taste and built for the W**e and Chile Fiesta.

This year, he welcomes a guest at the stove: Chef Bruno Davaillon, whose path runs through Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and a Michelin-star kitchen in Las Vegas, and who now leads Travis Street Hospitality Group in Dallas.

Together, they finish the menu with Calvisius caviar, a quiet detail for those paying attention.
