Beginning August 16, a 17.5-mile section of the Natchez Trace Parkway south of Tupelo, MS will be closed for paving between milepost 239.2 (intersection with MS Hwy 32) and milepost 256.7 (intersection with MS 6/US 278).
• The park service has setup a 31-mile-long detour route that we call the Marked Detour Route.
• IF you are bicycling, the Marked Detour Route is not safe to bike as it uses heavily travelled highways. We have created an Alternative Bicycle Detour Route that is only 23-miles-long and 20 of the miles are on lightly traveled county roads. Fortunately, the route is fairly flat - the maximum grade is only 2.8%.
