Beginning August 16, a 17.5-mile section of the Natchez Trace Parkway south of Tupelo, MS will be closed for paving between milepost 239.2 (intersection with MS Hwy 32) and milepost 256.7 (intersection with MS 6/US 278).

• The park service has setup a 31-mile-long detour route that we call the Marked Detour Route.

• IF you are bicycling, the Marked Detour Route is not safe to bike as it uses heavily travelled highways. We have created an Alternative Bicycle Detour Route that is only 23-miles-long and 20 of the miles are on lightly traveled county roads. Fortunately, the route is fairly flat - the maximum grade is only 2.8%.

October 9, 2021 update on the Natchez Trace Parkway Tupelo, MS Paving Project Closure and Detours

Phase One of paving (from milepost 257 to milepost 262.5) was completed on October 9, 2021 and is now open.

Phase Two paving/closure/detours between milepost 262.5 at the McCullough Boulevard/Hwy 178 intersection and milepost 266.1 just north of the Parkway Visitor Center at the Hwy 145 intersection will begin the week of October 11, 2021 and is estimated to last about 2 months.

Car Free Parkway Day in Williamson County, TN on Sunday, June 17, 2018 from 8:00 AM - Noon.

The Natchez Trace Parkway will be closed to vehicle traffic between mile markers 429 and 440 in Williamson County, TN. This section will be open to bicycles and pedestrian traffic only for a “Car Free Parkway Day.”

Temporary closure gates will be placed two miles south of Hwy 100 at the mile 440 parking area, the New Highway 96 on ramp, and north of Highway 46. Parking for bicyclists/pedestrians will be available at the mile 440 parking lot, New Highway 96 access, Pinewood Road Ranger Office, and Garrison Creek. Restrooms are located at Timberland Park (Mile 437) and Garrison Creek (Mile 428). A vehicle detour will be in place using Highways 46, 96, and 100.

The goal of this event is to promote safe outdoor recreation while having limited impacts to vehicle traffic. National Park Service staff will be available at each closure gate to assist the public. If you have any questions about this event contact Parkway staff at 662-680-4014.
