What a beautiful Spring day and now weekend! I enjoy the 15 minute walk down the rail trail across the street to Lake Colby, I never know what I may see in the woods or in the water. Yesterday I noticed a beautiful Tamarack tree with it's fresh needles and 'flowers' that become the baby pine cones which I never noticed before, they were reddish purple as seen in the photo. I was curious about the deciduous conifer and so I found the following link: https://www.ediblewildfood.com/tamarack.aspx

Many years ago I would forage for wild flowers and things to dry and make arrangements, wreaths, and ornaments. I used the tiny delicate pine cones to adorn my creations.
