Matagorda County Issues Immediate Burn Ban to Protect Public Safety
Matagorda County, Texas – The Matagorda County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has enacted a local burn ban effective immediately in response to heightened fire risk conditions. This action is taken in accordance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations and the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Title 30, Chapter 111.
NO VARIANCES WILL BE GRANTED. All outdoor burning, including controlled burns, recreational fires, and open burning of any materials—is strictly prohibited until further notice.
“This measure is critical to ensure public safety and protect air quality in our communities,” said Amanda Campos, EMT-P, Emergency Management/911 Coordinator for Matagorda County OEM. “We urge all residents, schools, and local organizations to comply fully and immediately with these restrictions.”
Burn Ban Guidelines
• No outdoor burning of any kind, including the burning of debris, trash, brush, or other materials.
• Strict adherence to instructions issued by local emergency management and fire officials.
• Inform students, staff, volunteers, and community members of the restrictions and emphasize the importance of compliance.
The burn ban will remain in effect until weather conditions improve, and the risk of wildfire subsides. The public will be notified promptly of any changes or updates.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed by visiting the TCEQ website and following updates from the Matagorda County Office of Emergency Management.
We appreciate the cooperation of all community members as we work together to safeguard Matagorda County during this time.
