Look at that smile.

Some folks wait their whole lives to hunt a bison. [Hunter name] finally checked it off this fall, and he did it right. One good shot on a big, heavy bull under a clear Sandhills sky.

This is what we love most about what we do. It’s not just the animal. It’s watching someone live out a hunt they’ve been thinking about for years, then sending them home with the meat, the hide, the skull, and a story they’ll be telling for the rest of their lives.

Every September this bull goes to work on the trees.

He’s shredding brush and saplings to scrape the last velvet off his antlers and mark his ground before the rut. You can see it still hanging off his rack. We walked up close enough that another elk nearly stepped into the shot.

This is just an ordinary morning on the ranch. Bison, elk and rams all live out here on the Nebraska Sandhills, and it never gets old to watch.

The grass has gone gold, the mornings have a bite to them, and the herd is moving in tight.

This is bison season in the Nebraska Sandhills.

Steve spent the morning glassing the hills with Hector, picked out a mature bull, and waited for the right shot. One clean shot, and he was down. Then the real work started.

Nothing out here goes to waste. We butcher every animal in-house, right here on the ranch, and every hunter takes home the meat. That’s how it was done for a long time before us, and it’s how we do it now. Take only what the land can give, and honor every bit of it.
