🍁 Peak fall color is right around the corner here in Sault Ste. Marie!

The colors are changing quickly, and current predictions have the Sault Ste. Marie area reaching peak color around the second week of October.

So, where should you go?

Start right here in town. Grab a crepe and a cup of coffee at Oh Crêpe and Coffee, walk through Soo Locks Park, and see if you can catch a freighter coming through. The trees around the park are beautiful this time of year, too.

Then get in the car and head west. Take the drive toward Point Iroquois and Whitefish Bay. This is one of those drives where you don’t really need a big plan. Stop at the lighthouse, pull over when you see something you like, and give yourself plenty of time to enjoy it.

If you have the whole day, keep going to Tahquamenon Falls. The falls are impressive any time of year, but surrounded by October color?!?!?!?
Definitely worth the drive!

Then head back to the Soo for dinner at Lockview Restaurant and a relaxing night at Days Inn. Our newly renovated rooms are clean and comfortable, the indoor pool and hot tub are waiting, and complimentary breakfast makes it easy to get up and do it all over again tomorrow.

Fall doesn’t last long up here, so if you want to see the U.P. in bursting with color, October is the time to come. 🍂

❤️ A BEAUTIFUL REMINDER OF WHAT COMMUNITY CAN DO ❤️

Earlier today, our General Manager personally reached out in a few local Facebook groups asking for help for a guest who had unexpectedly become stranded here in Sault Ste. Marie.

She needed a safe place to stay for the night and a bus ticket to get home.

What happened next was incredible. 🥹❤️

People immediately began reaching out, donating, sharing the post, and asking what they could do to help.

Because of that generosity, her room is completely covered, her bus ticket home is covered, a cab is arranged to get her to the bus, and there was even money left over to put directly in her pocket to help her along the way. Someone also dropped off a bag of snacks at the hotel for her journey home. ❤️

In just a matter of hours, a woman who found herself stranded far from home went from not knowing what she was going to do to having a safe place to sleep and everything she needs to continue her journey home.

And it happened because people cared.

Every donation mattered. Every share mattered. Every message and offer to help mattered.

We see people from all walks of life come through our doors, and sometimes hospitality becomes about a whole lot more than providing someone with a room.

Tonight was one of those nights. ❤️

To everyone in our Sault Ste. Marie community and beyond who stepped up for a complete stranger simply because she needed help — thank you.

You reminded all of us how much good there still is in this world.

This is community. This is kindness. And this is something worth sharing. ❤️🙏

🏃 The Sault International Festival of Races is coming to Sault Ste. Marie is September 26–27, and we can’t wait to welcome the runners to the Soo!

Saturday’s signature 5 Mile Bridge Run takes you across the International Bridge where you'll find views of the Soo Locks, St. Marys Rapids, and the passing freighters. On Sunday, there is a Half Marathon or 5K, with a 5K walk option too.

After all those miles, you’re going to want somewhere comfortable to come back to. Make Days Inn your race home away from home!

Climb aboard a Haunted River Boat Tour with Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours and experience a different side of Sault Ste. Marie after dark.

During this two-hour cruise along the lower St. Marys River, paranormal investigators Tim Ellis and Brad Blair will share ghostly folklore, maritime legends, eerie local stories, and fascinating history connected to the area. Enjoy the river after dark, take in the lights of the International Bridge and Canadian shoreline, and settle in for some spooky storytelling along the way.

It’s a great seasonal adventure for families, couples, and anyone who loves a good ghost story.
