One of Sault Ste. Marie’s coolest traditions is back
👉Friday, June 26 is Engineers Day and Art in the Park!

Engineers Day celebrates the history, innovation, and people behind the world-famous Soo Locks. Explore vendor booths, visit exhibits, see massive freighters up close, and enjoy the rare chance to walk through areas of the Soo Locks complex that are normally closed to the public. Cross the MacArthur Lock, tour historic spaces, and experience one of the biggest days of the year in Sault Ste. Marie.

While you're downtown, stop by the Second Annual Art in the Park from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Led by Jon Stone and the Veteran Artists Network (VAN) alongside the Sault Area Arts Center, this inspiring event brings together artists, musicians, veterans, and community members for a day filled with creativity, music, and connection while supporting wellness programs for veterans, service members, first responders, and their families.

After a lot of work behind the scenes, we are now Days Inn by Wyndham Sault Ste. Marie — no longer The Inn.

We’re excited for this next chapter and what it means for our guests… same great location, with even more to come.

🚢 The Soo Locks are officially open for the 2026 season!

The shipping season officially begins March 25, and around here that’s a big deal. Locals and visitors gather to watch the first freighters of the year pass through the locks after the long winter shutdown.

If you’re in Sault Ste. Marie this weekend, head down to the viewing platform and experience one of the Soo’s favorite traditions.

❄️ Heavy snowfall:
18–30 inches possible in the Sault Ste. Marie region

🌬 Strong winds:
40–60 mph inland gusts
Higher gusts possible near the Lake Superior shoreline

🌨 Blizzard conditions:
Snowfall rates could reach 1–3 inches per hour at times with significant blowing and drifting snow.

🚗 Travel impacts:
Visibility may drop to near zero during the peak of the storm and road closures are possible.
