Sweet Treat Tuesday 🍫🥜

Apparently, one thumbs-up wasn't enough for this one.

Neither were two.

Rebecca tells us last night's dessert earned double...triple thumbs up from the guests. 😂

Meet her latest creation: Tiger Striped Brownies.

Rich chocolate brownie batter swirled with peanut butter and loaded with Reese's chips — because apparently regular brownies just weren't going to cut it this week.

And with another full house at The Sautee Inn this weekend, there were plenty of willing taste-testers around to give their verdict.

The verdict?

Not many leftovers. 😉

One of the little things we love about staying at The Sautee Inn is never quite knowing what homemade treat might appear in the kitchen at the end of the day.
But chocolate + peanut butter?

We had a feeling this one wouldn't last long.

Serenity Sunday 🌿

Sometimes, the quietest Sunday mornings begin the night before.

With a full house of guests waking up at The Sautee Inn this morning, Rebecca was already preparing for them last night — setting both dining tables, one place at a time, and getting everything ready for another busy breakfast at the Inn.

There's something about seeing all of those place settings that makes us smile.
Every chair represents someone who chose to spend a little time with us in the North Georgia mountains. Someone who gets to come downstairs this morning, find a seat at the table and simply enjoy being taken care of.

And if you're wondering what breakfast around here might look like...

How about a warm Dutch baby pancake, roasted potatoes with lemon, adobo, garlic, rosemary and pepper, and twisted bacon — giving you a little chewy and a little crispy in every bite. ❤️

A full table. A full house. And very full hearts.

📜 Throwback Thursday • Chapter Nine

From Restaurant to Retreat

The Sautee Inn had its name. Now it was about to become the bed & breakfast guests would come to know and love.

After its years as a country restaurant, the historic house changed hands and underwent another series of renovations before eventually being purchased by Alberta Rimes and Anthony “Tony” Taiani.

Around 2006, Tony and Alberta opened the property as Sautee Inn Bed and Breakfast, welcoming overnight guests into eight bedrooms with private bathrooms.
And one of my favorite details from this chapter of the Inn's history can still be seen today.

Alberta noticed that guests staying upstairs would actually sit on the floor just to gaze out the windows at the beautiful North Georgia surroundings. So she decided they needed something better...
Balconies.

Balconies were added to the north-facing rooms on the second floor, giving guests a place to sit, take in the view and simply enjoy being in the mountains.

Tony and Alberta continued making the property their own, adding a deck and barn/chicken coop, while Alberta also operated a gift shop on the first floor filled with dolls and dishware.

I love stories like this because they remind us that The Sautee Inn we enjoy today wasn't created all at once.

It evolved.
Owner by owner.
Idea by idea.
Generation by generation.
And each one left a little something behind.

Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh set of eyes. 💚

Over the past few days, The Sautee Inn received a little extra love thanks to our dear friends Nicole and Rich, who made the five-hour drive from Tennessee for a visit — and brought along a little “room refreshing” magic while they were here.

Nicole has a wonderful way of looking at a space and seeing how a few thoughtful changes can make it feel completely new again.

She opened up the lounge to make it feel a little cozier and less cluttered, refreshed the Garden View Room, gave the foyer a cleaner, more welcoming feel and worked her magic on the merchandise and library area.

Nothing drastic.

Just little touches here and there that somehow make a big difference — while keeping all of the history, character and warmth that make The Sautee Inn feel like home.

And perhaps that's what we love most about this old Inn. It continues to evolve, but never loses the things that make it special.

Thank you, Nicole and Rich, for making the drive, sharing your time and giving our beautiful old girl a little extra love. We think she's looking pretty good. ❤️

And while things were being refreshed inside, a few hints of a new season were beginning to appear outside too…

But we'll save that for another day. 🍂

Sweet Treat Tuesday ☕🧁

Apparently, chai is having a moment in The Sautee Inn kitchen...and we're perfectly okay with that. 😊

Last week, Brooke was testing her Chai Tea Bread recipe.
This week?

Chai Tea Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting.

Warm chai spices baked into a soft cupcake and topped with a generous swirl of homemade cream cheese frosting.

And looking at that frosting, we think "generous" may be an understatement. 😂
There's something about those warm, cozy spices that feels just right as August begins winding down. We're still holding onto summer in the North Georgia mountains, but maybe — just maybe — our taste buds are beginning to think about fall.

And at The Sautee Inn, you never quite know what homemade treat might be waiting for you at the end of the day.

Serenity Sunday 🌿

Apparently, we had a hungry crowd at The Sautee Inn this morning.

Rebecca said everyone dove into breakfast before she could even grab her phone for a photo. 😂 Thankfully, she managed to make one more plate so we could give you a peek.

And this morning's breakfast came with a couple of stories we just had to share.
One returning guest had a special request for her French toast — a brown sugar caramel pecan topping — and, of course, the ladies were happy to oblige. Another guest was up bright and early to hike to the summit of Mount Yonah before returning to the Inn in time for a well-earned, hearty breakfast.

Now that's a Sunday morning.

An early mountain adventure if you want one. A homemade breakfast waiting when you return. And absolutely nowhere you need to rush off to afterward.

Some Sundays are meant for doing nothing.

Others are meant for climbing a mountain first. 😉

Celebrate Friday 🎂❤️

Another celebration at The Sautee Inn… and this one called for chocolate!

Rebecca usually makes her signature vanilla birthday cakes for guests celebrating at the Inn, but this time she changed things up with a chocolate cake made especially for the occasion — and even had the perfect excuse to showcase it under her new cake stand. 😊

It's one of the things we love most about welcoming guests to The Sautee Inn. Sometimes you're coming to escape to the mountains for a few quiet days…and sometimes you're coming because there's something wonderful to celebrate.

📜 Throwback Thursday • Chapter Eight

A New Name. A New Chapter.

By the 1970s, this historic house had already lived many lives — as a family home, a hotel, and a place where generations had gathered.

Then came another transformation.

The Anthony family purchased the property and opened Sautee Inn, A Country Restaurant — giving the house the name it still carries today.

The family lived upstairs while the main floor welcomed diners, and The Sautee Inn once again became a place where people gathered around the table, shared meals and made memories.

This 1979 feature from Brown's Guide to Georgia offers such a wonderful glimpse into that chapter of the Inn's history. Even more special, former servers and guests of the restaurant have returned over the years to share their own memories of the Anthony family and the time they spent here.

And perhaps that's one of the most remarkable things about this old house.
Its purpose has changed many times over nearly two centuries, but hospitality has remained at the heart of its story.

The Sautee Inn finally had its name.

Stay Awhile… in the Mountain View Room. 🏔️

Some rooms are worth planning ahead for.

The Mountain View Room is one of the most requested rooms at The Sautee Inn, and weekends tend to disappear quickly. But a midweek stay? That can be your opportunity to enjoy one of the best views in the house — perhaps with a little more peace and quiet, too.

This week, we're welcoming a couple traveling from Florida to celebrate their anniversary in Mountain View. Before they arrived, a friend in Canada called Rebecca hoping to make their getaway a little more special.

It was a last-minute request, but Rebecca did what Rebecca does. ❤️ She headed into town to gather flowers, pastries and tarts from a local bakery so a sweet surprise could be waiting when the anniversary couple arrived.

It's one of those little stories that says so much about staying at an inn where hospitality is personal.

And what a room they chose to celebrate in.

A king-size bed, private bath, French doors opening onto a private deck with a swing and porch furniture…and those incredible Appalachian Mountain views.

Weekends in Mountain View book quickly, but don't overlook a weekday escape. Sometimes the mountains are even better when everyone else is at work. 😉

Sweet Treat Tuesday ☕🍂

Is it too early for a little taste of fall?

We're not rushing summer away — promise. But Brooke has been testing a new recipe in The Sautee Inn kitchen, and this one feels just right for that little in-between season when the days are still warm but you can almost sense fall waiting around the corner.

Chai Tea Bread.

Warm ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and a touch of black pepper, balanced with just enough sweetness and finished with a homemade chai glaze and dusting of cinnamon.

Brooke describes it as a little like a September afternoon — warm and sweet with just a hint of spice.

And the best part? It's just as perfect for breakfast as it is for dessert...although we think a slice with a cup of coffee on the porch sounds pretty wonderful right about now. ☕️

Brooke is still testing this one in the Sautee kitchen, but judging by the looks of it, we think it may be a keeper.
