Fish on!

Thanks to everyone for the fish pictures and sending your catch reports that stayed at our cabin. Barren River Lake has been on fire for sure this year! Late summer and fall is a great time to fish this lake and the experts (me and a few old fishin buddies) are predicting, next year may be even better after this year’s flood!

Here’s a few pics of some bass I caught while waiting for our guests to check out so I could go fill up the firewood stack for the next campers. Yeh, that was me out there casting in the cove!

A new addition to the Kentucky Kajun, the “Bird Window”, for lack of a fancier term. We added this homemade window with nests and feeders so our guests could enjoy watching the migration and a few local visitors. The wildlife is fun to watch on the lake as the Spring unfolds. From Bald Eagles to kingfishers and loons, the lake is teaming with our feathered friends.

So don’t fowl this up! If you haven’t visited Kentucky when the redbuds and dogwoods are blooming, you’re missing out! Come getcha some KY!

Oh and we have paused all Tarrifs here at Barren River Lake so you can bring your fancy cameras for wildlife photos duty free!

Two O Two Four, WOW, what a great year on the lake at the Kentucky Kajun! Here’s a few pics from last year from some of our great guests, many of which were repeat customers. Trip Report: This past Friday we took a little afternoon trip from the Kajun to see the 1990s Queen of Country music, Lorrie Morgan. She performed at the Mint in Franklin, KY home of Kentucky Downs race track.

Before the concert we stopped at Habeggers Amish market for some treats then on to Franklin, KY and D’Legion Bar and Grill for a bite.
Great folks, food and a live band!

If you are looking for a fun afternoon only 30 minutes or so away from the Kajun, try eating in Franklin at D’ and catch a show at the Mint.

No telling who may recognize you and invite you backstage!! 🤷‍♂️

Trip Report: We took a trip to Bernheim Forest from the Kajun yesterday to see the fall foliage. It is a 16,000+ acre preserve with 40 miles of trails, trees, lakes, and activities. It did not disappoint!

It’s about 1 - 1/2 hours North of the cabin. There are playgrounds for kids, easy/moderate trails for hiking, a cafe and many scheduled activities for all.

So if you’re staying at the Kentucky Kajun and you want to see a little piece of the Kentucky forests, visit Bernheim. You could stop at the nearby Jim Beam distillery or perhaps visit Lincoln‘s birthplace on the way back, it’s a great day trip!
