In all seriousness, it doesn’t matter how you get it done, as long as it gets done!
You may be asking, why do we hand flip our cages? 🤔
Flipping mimics different tide changes, exposing the oysters to fresh air making the oysters more resilient and giving them better shape and cup size. It also controls biofouling; the sunlight removes algae, seaweed, barnacles and other organisms from the actual cages. Clean, unclogged cages means we can maintaining proper water flow & feeding for our !
On a real note - we’re getting into the summer months where temps require us to flip lines every one to two weeks. These cages, filled with oysters, can weigh anywhere from 200-300+ lbs. So next time you see an oyster farmer, make sure you thank them for all the behind the scenes work!! 🫡💪🏽
