Forest Houses Resort is situated on 20 wooded acres in upper Oak Creek Canyon. The resort is separated from the highway by trees and Oak Creek - a clear, cool continuously running mountain stream stocked with Rainbow and Brown trout and supporting an abundance of birds and wildlife. The canyon walls and multi-colored cliffs of basalt, lava, limestone and sandstone are forested with red maple, aspe

n, chaparral and seven varieties of oaks. The canyon floor, 1,500 – 2,000 feet below the rim, is shaded and cooled by giant Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir. Oak Creek is lined with lush sycamores, walnuts, alders, willows, flowering shrubs and wildflowers. Winter brings several snowfalls as the resort is just above the snowline at an altitude of one mile. Close to the resort are many spectacular trail walks and scenic hikes varying from relaxing to strenuous and providing opportunities to explore the unusual geological formations and vegetation of the canyon.

Help give Oak Creek Canyon some love this autumn by joining us for a litter pickup! About 4 million people visit this watershed annually, and any trash left behind is very unhealthy for the creek and the ecosystem. Let’s all work together to keep Oak Creek beautiful and protected!

Wed, September 9th from 8-10:30 am: Meet at Pine Flat Campground for a litter pickup with the Oak Creek Watershed Council and Adopt Oak Creek!
Pine Flat area is one of the few sections of Oak Creek that has remained open in the wake of the Pocket Fire. This means that quite a bit of traffic is being funneled through this area, and with traffic comes trash.

Sat, October 3rd from 8 am to noon: join Adopt Oak Creek for a cleanup sponsored by Love, Tito’s! Meet at Indian Gardens Cafe and Market, and groups will spread out throughout the canyon to pick up at high priority areas. Help give the canyon some TLC after the creek reopens from the Pocket Fire closure!

Sat, November 14th from 8 am to 12:30 pm: Join a collaborative cleanup effort with multiple organizations throughout Oak Creek Canyon! Volunteers meet at Slide Rock State Park (free entry for volunteers) and spread out in teams to pickup litter. There will be raffles, prizes, and more!

Get a peek inside the Diamond House, one of our most secluded cabins. This house sleeps up to 7 (with a bed in a loft that kids love) with 3 Queen beds and 1 Twin bed, and is very family/group friendly with an airy, open layout. It is tucked up in the woods with beautiful forest and canyon views. Pets are also welcome here!

Because of this containment, many Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon trails are reopening. The ones that are remaining closed until 9/30 are West Fork, Bear Sign, David Miller, Dry Creek, HS Canyon, and Secret Canyon.
Also staying closed until 9/30 is public Oak Creek access between West Fork to Uptown Sedona. This does NOT apply to private property like Forest Houses Resort, so we are still open and accessible!!
We are recommending for the cleanest and safest water recreation that our guests drive a short distance north to be upstream from the West Fork drainage. This public creek access is open and does not have the sediment and runoff that you’ll find downstream.

With 100% containment on the Pocket Fire, the closure area is reduced, especially the trails in Sedona! Public creek access in Oak Creek Canyon is limited through the end of September (closed between West Fork to Grasshopper Point). This does not apply to private property like Forest Houses Resort, so our guests are still able to access the property and enjoy the beautiful canyon! For cleanest, safest water access, we are recommending taking a short drive north past the West Fork area where the post-fire flooding did not occur. Please reach out with any questions!!

After the Pocket Fire, it is wonderful to be reopened and welcoming visitors to Forest Houses Resort.
Monsoon season is finally here, and we have had rain almost every day for the last week. Rain on the fire burn scar (especially at the top of West Fork canyon) turned the creek dark last week with ash and sediment. Because of flooding risks, some public areas along Oak Creek are closed until August 3rd. But our guests should rest assured that the closure does not apply to private property, which means that Forest Houses Resort and our neighboring hotels/resorts are open and ready to welcome you!
Monsoon season is absolutely beautiful and a wonderful time to visit the area. Remember to always be cautious outdoors and of flash flooding this time of year. Safety is our priority, and we have precautions in place so guests can park across the creek in an event of high water.

Great news today - we are open!! After being closed since June 19th, Oak Creek Canyon officially reopens today, Monday July 13th!
Slide Rock State Park, the water play areas and day use sites, and the businesses are all open in the canyon. Most of the hiking trails in Sedona are open, but several remain closed including trails in Oak Creek Canyon and near the Soldiers Pass area.
We are immensely grateful to the fire personnel and support teams who worked to make this possible. They protected the canyon, stopping the Pocket Fire from crossing over the rim. Thank you so much to these courageous people 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

We’ve had lots of questions about the smoke and air quality from the Pocket Fire. The fire is now at 76% containment as of July 11th, and the air quality is much improved!
We have been seeing light haze in the early morning, but this has been changing to clear, blue skies for the rest of the day.
All the photos in this post are from the last 24 hours, since we want to show you current conditions. Smoke and air quality can change on a daily basis (and air quality depends on other factors too), but Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon are beautiful and clear right now.
We urge folks to still come to Sedona and Flagstaff, as they are open (only Oak Creek Canyon is still closed, we expect to hear more info about possible reopening soon). The small businesses in those towns need visitors and support after being hit hard economically by this fire, and it is a wonderful time to experience lesser crowds here 🙏🏼

As we approach 3 weeks of being closed from the Pocket Fire that began on June 19th, we are staying optimistic and grateful. Fire containment has increased to 53%, and the size is roughly 27,400 acres. Progress is increasing in the West Fork drainage as well as the southern edge with containment lines.
The few employees here at Forest Houses have been working extremely hard both in the office (helping any guest affected by this, keeping people updated) and on the grounds. We are keeping FHR ready for when the canyon opens and we can welcome folks back.
Thank you to our guests for your patience and kindness, and to the fire personnel and support teams for everything you are doing to keep us safe. 🙏🏼💚
