Seneca Chief Passes Over Medina Culvert: The fabulous Seneca Chief replica vessel has begun day 3 of its 33-day voyage to New York City. It left Medina, NY along the Erie Canal this morning and is on the move east, passing over the historic Medina Culvert—ONLY spot on the entire Erie Canal where vehicles go UNDER the canal. The Chief will make brief stops in Albion and Holley before arriving in Brockport later today and overnighting there. Tomorrow it heads to Rochester for a night, then to Fairport for two nights (Sunday and Monday). Buffalo Maritime Center

Window to the World: Had a strong enough cell phone signal to be able to do a Facebook Live broadcast this morning from the stunning “Ice Volcano” at Letchworth State Park in Castile, NY. The fountain at the 1859 Glen Iris Inn has really crystallized in grand fashion due to the frigid cold this winter—the best it has been since that record cold February of 2015. I’m estimating that the Ice Volcano is about 30 feet tall, maybe higher—back in 2015 it was over 50 feet. Captured this shot before the live stream as the sky was quite intriguing for a fleeting moment. Lots of folks watching from across America 🇺🇸, from Vermont to Alaska and many places in between. Global participation was fantastic, these were just some of the places that were represented: Austria 🇦🇹, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰, Slovakia 🇸🇰, Poland 🇵🇱, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Thailand 🇹🇭, Ukraine 🇺🇦, Brazil 🇧🇷, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Bulgaria 🇧🇬, Hungary 🇭🇺, Colombia 🇨🇴, Africa 🇿🇦, France 🇫🇷, Germany 🇩🇪, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, Belgium 🇧🇪, Canada 🇨🇦, United Kingdom 🇬🇧, Mexico 🇲🇽, Vietnam 🇻🇳, Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, Panama 🇵🇦, Morocco 🇲🇦, Italy 🇮🇹, Norway 🇳🇴, India 🇮🇳, Sweden 🇸🇪, Japan 🇯🇵, Philippines 🇵🇭 and Netherlands 🇳🇱. It was a glorious sight as the bright sun emerged and offered some much welcomed warmth, warmth as in 30°—which felt like 60°. As always, thank you for the support on these Facebook Live broadcasts—more to come.
