On this day in 1934, Congress authorized the establishment of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We are thankful for the past 86 years of official protection and preservation of this Southern Appalachian treasure. Thank you for loving and supporting what has become the country’s most visited national park. We look forward to many more years of providing recreation, education, and solitude to present and future generations.
