Fall brings the Smokies crisp air, beautiful foliage, and unfortunately, heavy traffic. Remember these safety tips while traveling on park roads:
π Fill up before you come; there are no gas stations located within the park.
π Bring a map; cellular service and GPS navigation are limited within the park.
π Watch your speed; roads in the park are narrow and winding with blind curves and low shoulders.
π Prevent overheating engines and brakes; some roads in the park have steep grades. Keep an eye on your engine temperature gauge uphill and use a lower gear while driving downhill.
π Never drive impaired or distracted. Designate a navigator so you can keep your eyes on the road.
π Utilize roadside pull-offs if viewing scenery or wildlife.
π Use extra caution when driving at night. Be wary of wildlife crossing roadways.
