Kuwohi Road will be closed to all pedestrians, cyclists and motorists the mornings of Thursday, September 10, and Tuesday, September 15, to facilitate Kuwohi Connection Days. The park will close the road at 8 p.m. the night before each event and will reopen it by 2 p.m. each day of the scheduled closures.

Please consider alternate destinations during these times. If you're hoping for scenic mountain views, consider Look Rock Tower on the Foothills Parkway. Newfound Gap Overlook will also remain open during the Kuwohi closures.

All the way to the end of October, Smoky Mountain black bears will be active. In October they are on hyper mode to bulk up for their winter sleepy season. Pregnant sows are at the top of this activity to prepare to take care of their cubs that are born in the dead of winter.

This meme has been passed around Smoky Mountain social media for some time. It's timeless. I'm sharing with the My Bearfoot Cabins guests and friends to help them understand that our bears are the true locals and we are only visitors in their home. When staying at one of the cabins, make sure to enjoy watching them. More importantly, protect them by locking your vehicles and the cabin at all times. They can open unlocked doors easily. Always keep food locked and use the bear resistant trash container. If you need a trash pickup, don't hesitate to call me. A day prior to needing a trash pickup is ideal.
