It's January 3, 2025, the "middle" of Alaska's cold dark winter. Little Johnstone Lake is virtually ice free, the snow line is at 1,000 feet. It's raining at least one inch an hour. I guess it beats shoveling snow.

How to love the rain? When you live in a rainforest on a lake 3/4 of a mile off the Gulf Coast of Alaska, it's good to love the rain because you'll get a lot of it. A number of things are helpful in acquiring that love for all things wet.
1. A toasty warm sauna
2. Good rain gear
3. A cozy cabin with a wood stove and abundant firewood
4. A fine cup of coffee... maybe a chocolate chip cookie
5. A tranquil heart so you can relax, reflect, and appreciate all the things you are blessed with.
6. Oh yes, a dog like Oscar who loves having his ears rubbed.
