While we patiently (or impatiently) await access to Rim Village and lake views, Ranger Jan has been out snowshoeing on East Rim Drive and on Raven Trail. Conditions have varied from deep powder to crusty powder to wet heavy snow. At headquarters we currently have over 7 feet of snow on the ground. For those who might not know, general etiquette is for snowshoers to stay off ski tracks and for those hiking in boots to avoid both tracks. Deep postholing (when boots sink) is both dangerous and frustrating for other trail users. Please wait until there is a packed path before heading out without skis or snowshoes.

Hopefully soon the gate will open and blue skies will return. The snow plow operators are working hard to open the road to traffic. Beware Crater Lake National Park is in a snow zone and as such you are required to carry chains or have Oregon approved winter tires.
