Hi everyone, Our family cottage on Lake St. Catherine needs some work done. Since we live out of town, we are not familiar with the local workers. I'm looking for a carpenter to rebuild a short set of steps, a tree trimming company to cut about 5 big limbs, and a mason that can rebuild the brickwork of our chimney. Also I need the chimney liner replaced but don't know what kind of workman that would be. If any qualified worker is interested please respond quickly here. I will be at the cottage tomorrow-Monday 4/13 to meet with interested workers. Thank you, Susan

This should be the last of the snow this winter. The days are above freezing and the nights are still below. The crocuses and daffodils are just beginning to show up, not here yet since we're in the mountains, but over in town. There were some beautiful sunrises last month. So for now we hang out by the fire with hot cocoa and relax.

Sheffield Lodge sponsored a Christmas tree this year with the Historical Society. All the ornaments were handmade leading up to the potluck holiday party presentation for the town. We had a lot of fun with everyone creating their own trees decorations that had to be rain and snow proof. The trees will be up (hopefully still standing) until after New Years.

Sunday we visited Fishkill Farms in Poughkeepsie, NY, only a little more than an hour south of Sheffield Lodge for apple and pumpkin picking, delicious cider doughnuts, a corn maze, hayrides, and a blue grass band. Such a nice way to spend an afternoon with family. I came back with a 15 pound pumpkin, a bag of colorful gourds, and several new kinds of apples I've never tasted before.

This is a Wooly Bear caterpillar. Supposedly based on the number of brown segments, they can predict if it will be a cold or mild winter and a long or short winter. We've seen many of these in the forest this year.
